If you are raising either chickens or turkeys the next logical step would be to raise the turkeys and chickens together but is that a good idea or a bad one?

Raising turkeys and chickens together is not that good of an idea but with a little bit of maneuvering it can certainly be done.

So why is it a bad idea to raise chickens and turkeys together?

Turkey care is not quite as easy as hatching turkey eggs and watching them grow although it can be very easy. There are some things that need to be considered when raising turkeys and chickens together.

The biggest and most important reason that it is a bad idea is because of diseases.  Chickens are immune to some diseases that the turkeys can get that would be life threatening to them.  Chickens are a carrier of these diseases.  If you keep both your turkeys and chickens together then you have a good chance that all of your turkeys will get sick and pass away. That will make it very hard for turkey breeding.

Another very valid reason for not raising turkeys and chickens together is that they both require different nutrition in their diets.  If the turkeys and chickens are kept together you are going to have a hard time getting them the nutrition they need.

Without proper nutrition you will end up with both of your chickens and turkeys being unhealthy and having problems.

The third reason is that chickens and turkeys do not have the same type of personality so you could get into trouble if they decide not to get along.

So how do you actually go about raising turkeys and chickens together?

If you have enough room and want to raise both chickens and turkeys the best way would to give them both their own separate places.  Do make sure though that they are not placed right next to each other because you do not want your turkeys to get sick.

By giving them their own designated spots you can enjoy the benefits of raising both turkeys and chickens without having to worry about them getting sick.
