If you have been watching TV lately you probably saw an episode of where Kate Gosselin and her kids were building a chicken coop. Which probably led you to question if owning your own chicken coop is practical. But Kate’s inspiration to own your very own chicken coop has suddenly intrigued you.
Not only is chicken coop construction easy and fun for the whole family but of course has the benefit of farm fresh eggs. Everyone can, and will want to help out in the experience. Considering Kate has the time and energy for the upkeep and care, it is impossible to say you can not do it too!
Building chicken coops has become a recent new fad that everyone is doing. Literally, chicken coops are popping up everywhere! Look around in your very own neighborhood, you will be very surprised as to how many of your neighbors actually have one too! Chicken coops are not only for the country dwellers, but also people who live in the city can now have them too!
Like Kate Gosselin’s chicken coop, you too can have a coop that is low maintenance and easy to care for. Approximately 5-10 minutes a day is all you will need to care for you chickens. Or that, one (1) chicken will lay approximately 3-6 eggs each week. You should also understand that chickens can and will lay eggs without a rooster, so no need to worry that you will wake the neighbors at the crack of dawn every morning. Rooster are only necessary if you plan to have them fertilize the eggs.
Building a chicken coop is relatively simple and even someone that has little to no building experience can pull it off without a problem. So do not be scared. Before you get started here are a few things to take into consideration:
Space: Find a great location in the yard with plenty of sun. Chickens require sunlight to survive and thrive.
Plans: Find a good set of chicken coop plans to make the process easier and quicker. Without a good set of plans, you may find yourself realizing you left out some important parts that would not only benefit your chickens but yourself!
Time: A simple chicken coop can be built in a day, some will take the weekend. But no matter what coop you decide to build schedule in sometime where the entire family can participate in the activity.
Not only is building a chicken coop for farmers and TV personalities but also for the average Joe. It is an easy to accomplish project, fun for the whole family and a great learning experience for everyone involved.
