Liven Up Your Aquarium

The U.S. public are in love with fish – and I don’t mean the kind that we eat, but aquarium fish. Industry experts estimate that one in every ten households in the country has an aquarium stocked with one or more freshwater fish. There’s another .5% of the population that have saltwater fish a pets. This makes  aquarium fish-keeping one of the 3 most popular hobbies in the country.

But a plain fish tank is relatively dull. So what do you do with one once you have it? How do your accessorize it? Here are three fish aquarium ideas to help you to get started:

1) A decorated fish aquarium can add a touch of class and excitement to an otherwise drab room. But there’s really no rule that says that a fish aquarium has to be stocked with fish. An aquarium makes an ideal structure for housing a faux wetlands environment. Populate it with your favorite gravel, driftwood, marsh plants, and so on and watch your aquascape take off.

2) A lot of people like the thought of “natural” and for their aquarium surroundings they want to furnish the fish with  the natural setting that  they would have in nature. Others, however, don’t really care much. For people like them, plastic is the ideal “natural” substance. Fake plants, fake rocks, fake driftwood, fake structures are perfect for them. The beauty of plastic plants is that they don’t die. You put them in the tank, and, except for a bit of color fading here and there, they remain the same for years. Not only that, but you can get plastic structures in almost any shape you can think of – even castles.

3) Add a distinctive aquarium background to your tank. There are aquarium backgrounds to fit almost every budget and aquarium size. You can buy cheap and affordable background stickers that stick on to the back of your aquarium. Or, you can purchase molded background insets to affix to the sides of the tank. Or, you can go all out and get full 3d background structures similar to what you see in public aquariums all across the country. Any of these options can add a touch of excitement to your aquarium.

An aquarium can be more than just a tank. Done right, it can be a true work of art.
