The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
February 4th, 2012 by KittyKitty
One of the world’s most well liked and beloved small dogs, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a lively, sporting little dog with the confidence and character of a dog many times his size. A refined pure-bred, the Cavalier boasts a long, silky coat in four traditional color varieties and a nice character that makes him excellent for pretty much every owner.
Although descended from field spaniels, this guy is the ultimate house pet—playful, little, fun-loving, straightforward to train, and very tolerant of kids . It is a good idea that children be old enough to learn to be gentle to prevent injury to this tolerant and trusting breed. Whether you live on a farm or on the 40th floor in a high rise, the Cavalier makes a brilliant choice for a companion dog. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has adjusted to household living and makes a superb pet. They seek to please their owner so they are simple to train. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are equally at home in a castle or an apartment, the town or the country.
Historically, during Tudor times in the UK Toy Spaniels were common as women ‘ pets, although it was under the Stuarts that they were given the royal title of King Charles Spaniels. King Charles II was seldom seen without two or three spaniels at his heels. The red and white variety of Toy Spaniels was bred at Blenheim Palace by the Dukes of Marlborough. The breed became extinct due to the sudden popularity of flat faced dogs like Pugs and King Charles Spaniel (also called “Charlies” and known in the US as the English Toy Spaniel). The breed was reintroduced in the 1920 and in 1945 the Kennel Club granted separate registration for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Animated, yet loving, the Cavalier will like keeping you company, no matter if that comprises bustling beside you on a walk or snuggling cozily on your lap! Classy in appearance but energetic and affectionate in nature, they’re the perfect companions for families with youngsters, empty nesters, or retirees.
To find out more about the breed I would like to recommend looking for a local breed club to locate local Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeders. A local club will let you have interaction with folk that’ve been with the breed for numerous years. Additional information can be gained from the national clubs websites.
