Easy Tips For Training Your New Puppy

Learning proper puppy obedience training can lead to a long lasting relationship with your “best friend”. Dogs are great to be around. Dogs can provide a lot of value in your life. They can provide companionship, exercise, and lots of fun. They can be very difficult as well.
Dog owners have a big challenge of training their new puppy. This might take a lot of time and dedication. You have to be very patient. In the end, though, this commitment can be very rewarding. After you have trained your puppy you will have a lifelong friend. There are several commands that someone who starts puppy obedience training for the first time must know.
It is obvious that the first command you want to teach is the dog’s name. This comes just with practice and consistency. Make sure you use eye contact and say his name clearly. This lets the dog know that you are addressing them. Stay consistent and the dog will begin to respond after a short while.
“Sit. This is the cornerstone for the rest of your training. Many people use the command “sit” over and over to try and get the dog to sit. This approach is really not that great. Your dog can not speak English so they will not know what you are saying. A better approach is to say the command ’sit’ while guiding your dog into the sitting position. This correlates the word with the action you want done. Once they are in the sitting position, make sure you reward the dog with a treat. This gives them positive reinforcement for their actions. Again, like everything else in puppy obedience training, it just takes time and consistency.
The next command is “come.” This is very important because your dog will not always be on a leash and you always want to be able to control them, even when they are off the leash. Starting with your dog on a leash is an easy way to do that. Tell your dog “sit”, then walk as far away as the leash will let you. Once away, use the command ‘come’ and pull the dog toward you with the leash. After several times of doing this, you should be able to walk a good distance and use the command, and your dog will come.
These are some of the basic commands to get you started on training your new puppy. Your dog will become a lifelong friend after a while.
