Three Simple Ways to Cure Cat Dandruff
July 16th, 2009 by KittyKitty
Cat dandruff is a topic that I’ve seen too many times. It’s a problem that affects most of us cat lovers, and if you have a cat, it’s a matter of time before you have to look into it.
But fear not, there may be a cat dandruff cure that you can use without burning a hole in your wallet, just by observing the symptoms and environment and taking action based on these symptoms.
This is what I learnt from the excellent website Cat Dandruff Away…
Many cat dandruff problems have in common 3 factors:
1. The cat dandruff appears on the rump or tail and your cat is aged or over-weight.
If your kitty is over-weight or has gained weight suddenly and dandruff on her rump and tail, most likely she’s unable to reach these areas to clean herself. This is also a problem for ageing cats that lack the mobility to groom themselves.
A good brushing would help in this case and I suggest you groom her every couple of months. If you decide to give your cat a bath, please do not use human shampoos as that might dry her skin further and exacerbate the cat dandruff problem. Always use a cat shampoo and remember to wash thoroughly as excess shampoo stuck on her undercoat may begin the problem all over again.
2. The problem only appears during winter
If your cat only experiences dandruff issues in winter, then it could be the result of the cold and dry environment. Worse of all, a lot of cats like to lay about in the warm comforts of the fireplace, which rapidly dries her skin causing it to flake.
A good idea is to take her away from the fireplace regularly and see if the problem persists. Having a humidifier would be a really good idea, both for your feline friend and also yourself (humans get dry skin too…)
3. None of the above apply, help!
If your pet still has cat dandruff problems, a change in furniture might be the cause A new rug perhaps? Check if there has been any changes to her surroundings that she might be sensitive to and try to make the necessary adjustments.
If all three solutions still don’t work, don’t worry, take a look at this comprehensive step by step cure for cat dandruff.
