So your boss says he needs you in the Philadelphia office. For good. What will you do? Just as you were starting to get along with the guy across the isle. You have a great relationship with your baker. She just started slipping an extra bagel in the bag for you every morning! And your cat, Max.? He is very protective of the territory that he has staked out. What will he do now? They other cats respect his boundaries and surely he will miss that little patch of catnip you planted for him. The last time Max was in the car, he spent most of the trip hanging on to the ceiling of your vehicle. How is he now going to react to a much longer car ride? Inside a Moving van rental vehicle that he is unfamiliar with.
Some cats enjoy riding in a car, while most cats do not. If your cat does not do well in a car, you will want to get a carrier for them. By putting them into a crate or carrier, it is a security device, it also keeps them, and the vehicle, safe. You will want to bring the crate home a week or two before the move, so your cat can get used to the smell of it. You will want to look around to find a Cheap truck rental to move your belongings in. When you get it home, place it near Max’s area of the house and put a small litter box and a treat inside. A small sample from his catnip patch might work well here. By getting him used to it, your cat should be comfortable sitting in the crate, at least while it is still. You will want to take him in the car once he is used to the crate. Perhaps he will love it! More then likely however he probably will not.
You now know the basics of moving with a cat and have your van ready. You are ready to take Max for a test drive, now that you are almost packed. By the time you reach the end of the driveway, he has already begun that low, deep-belly moan and his eyes are as big as his ears. After a couple minutes the entire car is echoing Max’s displeasure at the ride. There are three options: You can just let him do it and try to ignore him. Second you could talk to your veterinarian about getting a sedative. You may want to hire Long distance movers and take Max on a plane instead of trying to drive with him.
Most cats can be quite odd. Cats do not always act the same at different times doing the same thing. Just remember that if you’re relaxed, things will go easier for Max. Be patient with him and hope for the best. You can help each other to remain calm and get through the move without too much hassle.
